Before I left my job to have my daughter, I used to work right near Jake's. I recall going there several times and drooling over how fantastic their burgers were. When I had the opportunity to go back to the restaurant again for a review, I was very much looking forward to it.
My husband Jay and I took our daughter to the Norwalk, CT location for dinner tonight. While we try to eat moderately healthy, sometimes you just want something delicious and comforting. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes certainly were on tonight's agenda.
The staff was very friendly as soon as we walked in. Since we have a 12 month old, we have to go out to dinner fairly early because she goes to bed at 7. As soon as we placed our order, the employees began preparing our food. Jay ordered the Alpine burger which is the burger of the month. I opted for the turkey burger and we split an order of chili cheese fries. Of course we had to enjoy an Oreo mint shake along with our meal too. Scarlett was excited to chow down on the chicken strips we ordered for her.
The Alpine Burger consists of two patties with pickled onions, swiss cheese, and peppercorn sauce. This beauty is served on a pretzel roll which is sure to satisfy. Jay said the meat was cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. The pretzel bun was soft, fresh, and the perfect modern addition to a classic burger. You can't forget about the melty swiss cheese which gave the burger a nice boost of cheesy goodness. I was told that the peppercorn sauce had a kick which added an element of flavor that was out of bounds. All in all, the burger was heartily enjoyed.
My turkey burger was utterly delicious as well. I haven't had a turkey burger in a while and now I know what I've been missing. This round beauty had a hearty turkey patty that was bursting with juicy flavor in each bite. My tastebuds tasted the burger and said YUM! The lettuce and tomato added a cool component which mixed well with the warm meat. Each bite was better than the last and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Everyone knows it would be a sin to not have fries with burgers. It's just common knowledge, right? If it was just me I would have chosen regular fries, but since my husband wanted to pick we went with what he wanted. Jay ordered chili cheese fries which wouldn't be my first choice. They actually weren't bad at all! The piping hot crispy fries were piled high with cheese and chili that beckoned anyone to try them. Of course I can't resist fries, so I ended up having to give into my cravings. My taste buds enjoyed the new flavors and hoped chili cheese fries would make an appearance again soon!
Scarlett also thoroughly enjoyed her crispy chicken. This girl loves to eat anything and everything and was happy to have some chicken. The staff was nice enough to cut the chicken up for her without us asking. We didn't share the milkshake or the fries with her though. ;)

I love mint in absolutely any dessert and of course this one didn't fail to satisfy either. The cool and creamy mint combined with the chocolate Oreo flavor was fantastic. Who doesn't love a rich and thick milkshake to end the night with?
