The Melt Shop Review

Grilled cheese is a favorite among any age. Sure it's a favorite for kids, but it's easy to make a delicious "adult" version of the famous sandwich too. How about a fabulous grilled fontina and cheddar sandwich on ciabatta or even a basil pesto mozzerella melt? Food is all about experimentation and creativity. Step into the kitchen and make your own food masterpiece.

The Melt Shop is a grilled cheese and sandwich melt establishment that just recently opened in New York City last month. It's located in the Citigroup building, in the heart of Midtown. Midtown is known for its hustle and bustle and constant chaos of people on the go. Once you walk down those stairs into the blissful and peaceful outdoor plaza, you would have no idea that you were just mere seconds ago in one of the busiest sections of Manhattan! The plaza boasts a cozy section of public tables and chairs for you to take a load off or enjoy lunch. I came across a review of this restaurant online and I was intrigued and I knew I had to try it.

Quick success for the shop.

The Melt Shop is tucked away in the corner of the plaza, and I think the location for it is perfect. I can just picture friends enjoying the hot summer sun and having a great conversation over delicious food and cold drinks. The shop offers creative grilled cheese sandwiches such as fontina and goat cheese, aged cheddar with maple glazed bacon, and even a three cheese melt featuring lusciously fabulous cheeses. Of course they have the classic All-American favorite too. Grilled cheeses isn't the only thing this shop serves though, they offer buttermilk fried chicken, tuna melts, and a great beverage, sides, and sweets menu. They even serve breakfast for your morning commute with such eats as roasted tomato and monterey jack frittata, granola with greek yogurt, and make your own breakfast melt. The shop has unique menu items that will surely have people coming back time and time again.

A small piece of heaven.

I met with the managing partner Spencer, who couldn't have been nicer. He was friendly and chatty and I enjoyed speaking with him about the success of the restaurant so far. He was very hospitable and was quick to accomodate me. Before I came to the restaurant I did peruse the menu online beforehand so I was familiar with the menu items. I settled on the aged cheddar with maple glazed bacon on sourdough. Within what felt like only moments, the best looking sandwich was placed in front of me, and I couldn't wait to try it. Upon first bite it was heavenly. The warm sandwich was so comforting and absolutely delicious, and by far the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever eaten. The grilled cheese was perfectly golden brown and toasted perfectly. The bread was thick and hearty. The sourdough was firm but still had softness to it. The cheddar was so fresh and bursting with great flavor and it oozed out of the side of the bread perfectly. Spencer told me the bacon was hand-glazed in the kitchen. I've never had maple glazed bacon before so I knew I was in for a treat. The combination of salty, crispy bacon, the sweet maple glaze, and the cheddar was out of this world. The bacon was thick and provided such a fantastic flavor too. I've never tasted anything like this sandwich before and it was addicting. Each bite was better than the first and I couldn't get enough of it!

I washed the sandwich down with an Arnold Palmer-which is a mix of lemonade and iced tea. The beverage had the just the perfect amount of sweetness to it and it was extremely refreshing.

Even though this restaurant has only been open for 3 weeks, Spencer had told me he has already noticed many repeat customers coming back and enjoying their newly-found favorite menu items. This shop is a fabulous choice for a quick work lunch. The service is quick and the workers are friendly. I was very satisfied with my dining experience at The Melt Shop and I will definitely be coming back.
